Victorian Canterbury Sheet Music Rack, Ebonised Hardwood with Gold Column Details

This Canterbury in constructed from ebonised hardwood and has short legs finished with a set of brass casters. There are five vertical slats creating six internal compartments. The exterior is decorated with a harp and foliage design on the two larger faces and a vase of wheat motif on the ends. The top rim and the four Corinthian columns on each corner are highlighted in gold.
A Canterbury is a low, open-topped stand with vertical slatted partitions intended for holding sheet music, plates, and serve ware in an upright position, now often used as a magazine or newspaper rack. This example dates from the 19th C and wear including knocks and scuffs is consistent with age. Please use the listing photos as a visual reference of condition.
