A Reclaimed Set of 13 Stations of the Cross in the manner of Eric Gill.

This set of hand-carved early 20th Century stone tableaus depicts 13 out of the 14 Stations of the Cross, executed in the distinctive style of Eric Gill. His Stations of the Cross series, characterised by their simplicity, directness, and a focus on human form and emotion, have become iconic in the art world.

Each tableau in this set represents a significant event in the Passion of Christ, guiding viewers on a spiritual journey. The series typically begins with Jesus being condemned to death by Pontius Pilate and concludes with his entombment.

The images are usually mounted on the inside walls of a church or chapel but may also be erected in such places as cemeteries, corridors of hospitals and religious houses.

The series of stations is as follows:

  1. Jesus is condemned to death. (Missing)
  2. The Cross.
  3. The First Fall.
  4. His Mother.
  5. Simon.
  6. Veronica.
  7. The Second Fall.
  8. The women of Jerusalem.
  9. The Third Fall.
  10. Stripped of his garments. (Break to upper left corner)
  11. Nailed to the cross.
  12. Jesus dies.
  13. Taken Down.
  14. Laid in the Tomb.

The carvings appear to be in good vintage condition, considering their age with some small knocks and scuffs but no major cracks or damage, except for the upper corner of tableau 10, which is broken but could be repaired or secured in place during installation by a trained professional. Please refer to the accompanying images for a detailed assessment of the condition. Sold as a set of 13, the dimensions given below are for an individual panel.
