This antique cast iron fireplace backplate features an intricate maritime design. The central motif is of an anchor, symbolizing hope and stability, surrounded by a decorative border. The top of the backplate is adorned with a crown, adding a touch of regal elegance.

This piece would be a stunning addition to any home, bringing a touch of history and character to your fireplace. It can be displayed as a wall hanging or used functionally as a fireplace backplate. Historically, these backplates, also known as firebacks, served dual purposes. They protected the back wall of the fireplace from intense heat and, being made of heat-conductive cast iron, absorbed and radiated warmth back into the room, enhancing the fireplace's efficiency.
