Antique Wrought Iron Nursery Fireguard

Victorian and Edwardian households used guards like this to create a firm barrier around open hearths. The structure prevents children and pets from reaching flames or hot grates. The frame uses wrought iron vertical bars with a dark aged patina. Wear across the surface supports a late nineteenth to early twentieth century date.

The deep box form wraps around the fireplace opening. It sits flush to the wall on both sides and encloses the front fully. This design stops gaps at the corners where a child could squeeze through. The rounded corners at the top are a hallmark of nursery style guards. They remove sharp edges and soften the profile. Small iron hooks sit at the upper ends. Fix these into the wall or surround and the guard stays secure and upright.
