This wrought iron rush light holder has been repurposed into a pedestal lamp, preserving its historic character while adding modern functionality. Originally hand-forged, it was designed to grip a rush taper—strips of dried rush plants dipped in animal fat—which provided a simple and affordable source of light before the widespread use of candles. These holders were commonly used in rural homes from the medieval period through the 18th century.

Now converted into a functional floor lamp, it features a pair of wired fittings while maintaining its aged patina and distinctive form. Its tall, slender design and sturdy iron base make it a striking feature in any interior.
