Bog Oak Boards, Cut from Reclaimed Riverbank Pilings - 7.5 Square Metres

SKU: NR23725

A unique batch with a striking division in colour across each board, marking where the timber was partly buried in the peat. These boards have been hand-selected, wire-brushed, and planned to bring out their amazing colours and textures. This batch is supplied in mixed lengths and the thickness varies across each board, consistent with the undulations caused by wear.

Bog oak is a type of oak wood that has been preserved in waterlogged conditions, often in peat bogs, marshes or riverbanks. The anaerobic environment prevents the wood from decaying, allowing it to remain intact for thousands of years. Bog oak is characterised by its dark colour, caused by tannins and minerals absorbed from the water. It is generally harder and denser than regular oak, with greater resistance to decay and insect damage. The waterlogging process can also create unique patterns and textures in the wood.

These boards are salvaged riverbank pilings from the Norfolk Broads. They have been carefully denailed and graded for usability. As a reclaimed product, some will show signs of wear and tear, including nail holes, notches, and small splits. Please use the listing photos as a visual guide to condition. Contact us if you have any specific requirements or would like more information. Buyers should consult their chosen fitter or trained professional to ensure the boards are suitable for their intended purpose.
